Acts 8:19

← Acts 8:18 Acts 8:19 (KJV) Acts 8:20 →
And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.
But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

  • G1325 — δίδωμι (dídōmi, did'-o-mee): a prolonged form of a primary verb (which is used as an alternative in most of the tenses); to give (used in a very wide application, properly, or by implication, literally or figuratively; greatly modified by the connection); adventure, bestow, bring forth, commit, deliver (up), give, grant, hinder, make, minister, number, offer, have power, put, receive, set, shew, smite (+ with the hand), strike (+ with the palm of the hand), suffer, take, utter, yield
  • G1437 — ἐάν (eán, eh-an'): from εἰ (ei) G1487 and ἄν (án) G302; a conditional particle; in case that, provided, etc.; often used in connection with other particles to denote indefiniteness or uncertainty; before, but, except, (and) if, (if) so, (what-, whither-)soever, though, when (-soever), whether (or), to whom, (who-)so(-ever). See μή (mḗ) G3361.
  • G1849 — ἐξουσία (exousía, ex-oo-see'-ah): from ἔξεστι (éxesti) G1832 (in the sense of ability); privilege, i.e. (subjectively) force, capacity, competency, freedom, or (objectively) mastery (concretely, magistrate, superhuman, potentate, token of control), delegated influence; authority, jurisdiction, liberty, power, right, strength
  • G2007 — ἐπιτίθημι (epitíthēmi, ep-ee-tith'-ay-mee): from ἐπί (epí) G1909 and τίθημι (títhēmi) G5087; to impose (in a friendly or hostile sense); add unto, lade, lay upon, put (up) on, set on (up), + surname, X wound

Compare ἵνα μή (hína mḗ) G3363.
  • G2504 — κἀγώ (kagṓ, kag-o'): from καί (kaí) G2532 and ἐγώ (egṓ) G1473; so also the dative case κἀμοί (kamoí) kam-oy', and accusative case κἀμέ (kamé) kam-eh' and (or also, even, etc.) I, (to) me; (and, even, even so, so) I (also, in like wise), both me, me also
  • G2983 — λαμβάνω (lambánō, lam-ban'-o): a prolonged form of a primary verb, which is use only as an alternate in certain tenses; to take (in very many applications, literally and figuratively (properly objective or active, to get hold of; whereas δέχομαι (déchomai) G1209 is rather subjective or passive, to have offered to one; while αἱρέομαι (hairéomai) G138 is more violent, to seize or remove)); accept, + be amazed, assay, attain, bring, X when I call, catch, come on (X unto), + forget, have, hold, obtain, receive (X after), take (away, up)
  • G3004 — λέγω (légō, leg'-o): a primary verb; properly, to "lay" forth, i.e. (figuratively) relate (in words (usually of systematic or set discourse; whereas ἔπω (épō) G2036 and φημί (phēmí) G5346 generally refer to an individual expression or speech respectively; while ῥέω (rhéō) G4483 is properly to break silence merely, and λαλέω (laléō) G2980 means an extended or random harangue)); by implication, to mean; ask, bid, boast, call, describe, give out, name, put forth, say(-ing, on), shew, speak, tell, utter
