Luke 17:28

← Luke 17:27 [words of Jesus] Luke 17:28 (KJV) [words of Jesus] Luke 17:29 [words of Jesus] →
They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

Strong's References
  • G59 — ἀγοράζω (agorázō, ag-or-ad'-zo): from ἀγορά (agorá) G58; properly, to go to market, i.e. (by implication) to purchase; specially, to redeem; buy, redeem
  • G1096 — γίνομαι (gínomai, ghin'-om-ahee): a prolongation and middle voice form of a primary verb; to cause to be ("gen"-erate), i.e. (reflexively) to become (come into being), used with great latitude (literal, figurative, intensive, etc.); arise, be assembled, be(-come, -fall, -have self), be brought (to pass), (be) come (to pass), continue, be divided, draw, be ended, fall, be finished, follow, be found, be fulfilled, + God forbid, grow, happen, have, be kept, be made, be married, be ordained to be, partake, pass, be performed, be published, require, seem, be showed, X soon as it was, sound, be taken, be turned, use, wax, will, would, be wrought
  • G1722 — ἐν (en, en): a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between εἰς (eis) G1519 and ἐκ (ek) G1537); "in," at, (up-)on, by, etc.; about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-)by (+ all means), for (… sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-)in(-to, -wardly), X mightily, (because) of, (up-)on, (open-)ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X shortly, (speedi-)ly, X that, X there(-in, -on), through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), under, when, where(-with), while, with(-in). Often used in compounds, with substantially the same import; rarely with verbs of motion, and then not to indicate direction, except (elliptically) by a separate (and different) preposition.
  • G2068 — ἐσθίω (esthíō, es-thee'-o): strengthened for a primary ἔδω (édō) (to eat); used only in certain tenses, the rest being supplied by φάγω (phágō) G5315; to eat (usually literal); devour, eat, live
  • G2250 — ἡμέρα (hēméra, hay-mer'-ah): feminine (with ὥρα (hṓra) G5610 implied) of a derivative of ἧμαι (hēmai) (to sit; akin to the base of ἑδραῖος (hedraîos) G1476) meaning tame, i.e. gentle; day, i.e. (literally) the time space between dawn and dark, or the whole 24 hours (but several days were usually reckoned by the Jews as inclusive of the parts of both extremes); figuratively, a period (always defined more or less clearly by the context); age, + alway, (mid-)day (by day, (-ly)), + for ever, judgment, (day) time, while, years
  • G2532 — καί (kaí, kahee): apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words; and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet
  • G3091 — Λώτ (Lṓt, lote): of Hebrew origin (H3876); Lot, a patriarch; Lot
  • G3618 — οἰκοδομέω (oikodoméō, oy-kod-om-eh'-o): from the same as οἰκοδομή (oikodomḗ) G3619; to be a house-builder, i.e. construct or (figuratively) confirm; (be in) build(-er, -ing, up), edify, embolden
  • G3668 — ὁμοίως (homoíōs, hom-oy'-oce): adverb from ὅμοιος (hómoios) G3664; similarly; likewise, so
  • G4095 — πίνω (pínō, pee'-no): a prolonged form of πίω (píō) pee'-o; which (together with another form) πόω (póō) po'-o; occurs only as an alternate in certain tenses; to imbibe (literally or figuratively); drink
  • G4453 — πωλέω (pōléō, po-leh'-o): probably ultimately from πέλομαι (pélomai) (to be busy, to trade); to barter (as a pedlar), i.e. to sell; sell, whatever is sold
  • G5452 — φυτεύω (phyteúō, foot-yoo'-o): from a derivative of φύω (phýō) G5453; to set out in the earth, i.e. implant; figuratively, to instil doctrine; plant
  • G5613 — ὡς (hōs, hoce): probably adverb of comparative from ὅς (hós) G3739; which how, i.e. in that manner (very variously used, as follows); about, after (that), (according) as (it had been, it were), as soon (as), even as (like), for, how (greatly), like (as, unto), since, so (that), that, to wit, unto, when(-soever), while, X with all speed

The following Strong's numbers are referenced in the Greek (Textus Receptus, Scrivener 1894) text but were not explicitly tagged in the KJV source:

  • G3588 — ὁ (ho, ho): the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom); the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc
