John 4:5
| ← John 4:4 | John 4:5 (KJV) | John 4:6 → |
|---|---|---|
And he must needs go through Samaria.
|
Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
|
Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

Strong's References
- G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): from the particle αὖ (aû) (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ (aḗr) G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons; her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ (hautoû) G848.
- G1325 — δίδωμι (dídōmi, did'-o-mee): a prolonged form of a primary verb (which is used as an alternative in most of the tenses); to give (used in a very wide application, properly, or by implication, literally or figuratively; greatly modified by the connection); adventure, bestow, bring forth, commit, deliver (up), give, grant, hinder, make, minister, number, offer, have power, put, receive, set, shew, smite (+ with the hand), strike (+ with the palm of the hand), suffer, take, utter, yield
- G1519 — εἰς (eis, ice): a primary preposition; to or into (indicating the point reached or entered), of place, time, or (figuratively) purpose (result, etc.); also in adverbial phrases; (abundant-)ly, against, among, as, at, (back-)ward, before, by, concerning, + continual, + far more exceeding, for (intent, purpose), fore, + forth, in (among, at, unto, -so much that, -to), to the intent that, + of one mind, + never, of, (up-)on, + perish, + set at one again, (so) that, therefore(-unto), throughout, til, to (be, the end, -ward), (here-)until(-to), …ward, (where-)fore, with. Often used in composition with the same general import, but only with verbs (etc.) expressing motion (literally or figuratively).
- G2064 — ἔρχομαι (érchomai, er'-khom-ahee): middle voice of a primary verb (used only in the present and imperfect tenses, the others being supplied by a kindred (middle voice) ἐλεύθομαι (eleúthomai) el-yoo'-thom-ahee, or (active) ἔλθω (élthō) el'-tho, which do not otherwise occur); to come or go (in a great variety of applications, literally and figuratively); accompany, appear, bring, come, enter, fall out, go, grow, X light, X next, pass, resort, be set
- G2384 — Ἰακώβ (Iakṓb, ee-ak-obe'): of Hebrew origin (H3290); Jacob (i.e. Ja`akob), the progenitor of the Israelites; also an Israelite:--Jacob
- G2501 — Ἰωσήφ (Iōsḗph, ee-o-safe'): of Hebrew origin (H3130); Joseph, the name of seven Israelites; Joseph
- G3004 — λέγω (légō, leg'-o): a primary verb; properly, to "lay" forth, i.e. (figuratively) relate (in words (usually of systematic or set discourse; whereas ἔπω (épō) G2036 and φημί (phēmí) G5346 generally refer to an individual expression or speech respectively; while ῥέω (rhéō) G4483 is properly to break silence merely, and λαλέω (laléō) G2980 means an extended or random harangue)); by implication, to mean; ask, bid, boast, call, describe, give out, name, put forth, say(-ing, on), shew, speak, tell, utter
- G3739 — ὅς (hós, hos): probably a primary word (or perhaps a form of the article ὁ (ho) G3588); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative) pronoun, who, which, what, that; one, (an-, the) other, some, that, what, which, who(-m, -se), etc. See also οὗ (hoû) G3757.
- G3767 — οὖν (oûn, oon): apparently a primary word; (adverbially) certainly, or (conjunctionally) accordingly; and (so, truly), but, now (then), so (likewise then), then, therefore, verily, wherefore
- G4139 — πλησίον (plēsíon, play-see'-on): neuter of a derivative of πέλας (pélas) (near); (adverbially) close by; as noun, a neighbor, i.e. fellow (as man, countryman, Christian or friend); near, neighbour

- G5207 — υἱός (huiós, hwee-os'): apparently a primary word; a "son" (sometimes of animals), used very widely of immediate, remote or figuratively, kinship; child, foal, son
- G5564 — χωρίον (chōríon, kho-ree'-on): diminutive of χώρα (chṓra) G5561; a spot or plot of ground; field, land, parcel of ground, place, possession
