|---|---|---|
And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?
|
Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?
|
Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.

Strong's References
- G611 — ἀποκρίνομαι (apokrínomai, ap-ok-ree'-nom-ahee): from ἀπό (apó) G575 and κρίνω (krínō); to conclude for oneself, i.e. (by implication) to respond; by Hebraism (compare H6030) to begin to speak (where an address is expected); answer
- G846 — αὐτός (autós, ow-tos'): from the particle αὖ (aû) (perhaps akin to the base of ἀήρ (aḗr) G109 through the idea of a baffling wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative ἑαυτοῦ (heautoû) G1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other persons; her, it(-self), one, the other, (mine) own, said, (self-), the) same, ((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves), there(-at, - by, -in, -into, -of, -on, -with), they, (these) things, this (man), those, together, very, which. Compare αὑτοῦ (hautoû) G848.
- G1161 — δέ (dé, deh): a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.; also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English)
- G1194 — δέρω (dérō, der'-o): a primary verb; properly, to flay, i.e. (by implication) to scourge, or (by analogy) to thrash; beat, smite
- G1487 — εἰ (ei, i): a primary particle of conditionality; if, whether, that, etc.; forasmuch as, if, that, (al-)though, whether. Often used in connection or composition with other particles, especially as in εἴγε (eíge) G1489, εἰ δὲ μή(γε) (ei dè mḗ(ge)) G1490, εἰ καί (ei kaí) G1499, εἰ μή (ei mḗ) G1508, εἰ μή τι (ei mḗ ti) G1509, εἴ περ (eí per) G1512, εἴ πως (eí pōs) G1513, εἴ τις (eí tis) G1536, ἐκ (ek) G1537. See also ἐάν (eán) G1437.
- G2424 — Ἰησοῦς (Iēsoûs, ee-ay-sooce'): of Hebrew origin (H3091); Jesus (i.e. Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites; Jesus
- G2556 — κακός (kakós, kak-os'): apparently a primary word; worthless (intrinsically, such; whereas πονηρός (ponērós) G4190 properly refers to effects), i.e. (subjectively) depraved, or (objectively) injurious; bad, evil, harm, ill, noisome, wicked
- G2560 — κακῶς (kakōs, kak-oce'): from κακός (kakós) G2556; badly (physically or morally); amiss, diseased, evil, grievously, miserably, sick, sore
- G2573 — καλῶς (kalōs, kal-oce'): adverb from καλός (kalós) G2570; well (usually morally); (in a) good (place), honestly, + recover, (full) well
- G2980 — λαλέω (laléō, lal-eh'-o): a prolonged form of an otherwise obsolete verb; to talk, i.e. utter words; preach, say, speak (after), talk, tell, utter. Compare λέγω (légō) G3004.
- G3140 — μαρτυρέω (martyréō, mar-too-reh'-o): from μάρτυς (mártys) G3144; to be a witness, i.e. testify (literally or figuratively); charge, give (evidence), bear record, have (obtain, of) good (honest) report, be well reported of, testify, give (have) testimony, (be, bear, give, obtain) witness
- G3165 — μέ (mé, meh): a shorter (and probably original) form of ἐμέ (emé) G1691; me; I, me, my
- G4012 — περί (perí, per-ee'): from the base of πέραν (péran) G4008; properly, through (all over), i.e. around; figuratively with respect to; used in various applications, of place, cause or time (with the genitive case denoting the subject or occasion or superlative point; with the accusative case the locality, circuit, matter, circumstance or general period); (there-)about, above, against, at, on behalf of, X and his company, which concern, (as) concerning, for, X how it will go with, ((there-, where-)) of, on, over, pertaining (to), for sake, X (e-)state, (as) touching, (where-)by (in), with. In comparative, it retains substantially the same meaning of circuit (around), excess (beyond), or completeness (through).
- G5101 — τίς (tís, tis): probably emphatic of τὶς (tìs) G5100; an interrogative pronoun, who, which or what (in direct or indirect questions); every man, how (much), + no(-ne, thing), what (manner, thing), where (-by, -fore, -of, -unto, - with, -withal), whether, which, who(-m, -se), why
